Allow me to introduce you to nature’s tide pod, the soap nut!

It’s true, you can use a nut to wash your laundry! There is a type of nut that acts like soap, and it works great as an all-natural laundry detergent.

Regular laundry detergent, unfortunately, has a few negative environmental impacts that come with it. First, the chemicals end up in bodies of water after they have been used to clean your clothes. They can end up creating algal blooms that harm the fish and other water dwellers. Laundry detergents also come packaged in plastic most often, and, as we know by now, we should all be trying to cut down on plastic.

That’s where soap nuts come into play!

Soap nuts are safe for our water-dwelling friends and they are plastic free. Not to mention, they are also a great move if you’re trying to save money. When I was a broke college student, I dreaded the day I would run out of laundry detergent. That stuff can run a pretty penny and I rarely had much extra money to spend. But then one day, I bought a pack of soap nuts from Amazon, and I never had to buy laundry detergent for the rest of college. That one box of soap nuts…
